Compuware in benchmarks, Gomez, just released new data from the Web site, the dimension of the project, whose purpose is to determine the fastest Web browser in the "real world" desktop users. Download the draft measure broadband users only.
Data collected for one month time frame, the results of individual measurements of 1.86 billion on more than 200 Web sites. Test results? No surprise here – winner – Google Chrome.
The table below you can see the page load time (blue) is low (3.433 seconds) to 12, the latest version of Google chrome Web browser. Last updated: Chrome 13 is the last release, last week.
At the high end is Apple Safari 4 (6.149 seconds) and IE 7 (6.006 seconds), neither of which are the current versions.
The second metric is the render (green), refers to the amount of time it takes for the visible parts of the page to load in the browser. Again, chrome did well here (2.374 seconds), but in this case Firefox 5 better (2.18 seconds).
To be clear, Gomez did not test the speed of browser capabilities in laboratory conditions, it measures actual performance – i.e., measuring how people actually experience Web browser performance. Traditionally, this data is used by businesses who want to test their Web applications after deployment.
As Google chrome users themselves, these findings back up what I already thought about the performance of Chrome is fast! However, it also makes me think that Firefox 5 might be worth a second look.
More data from this report will be released at a later date, Compuware said.
