Intel buys semiconductor company Fulcrum Microsystems

Fulcrum Microsystems Picture

Intel announced the acquisition of separating semiconductor company Microsystems. Financial terms of the deal, which is expected in the third quarter of 2011, are not disclosed.

Fulcrum Microsystems designs Ethernet switch silicon for suppliers of network data center. Support in providing connection device for storage, computing and network adapter and connect applications in the United States and internationally. The company's products includes FocalPoint, which includes Ethernet switch/router chips; ControlPoint Kit, which includes bridging Ethernet switching and routing software modules; and PivotPoint SPI-4.2 is chip.

Intel said that as demand increases for the growing need for high performance, low latency network switches to support cloud architectures and the growth of a converged network. Fulcrum Microsystems 10GbE and 40 Gigabit Ethernet switch Silicon helps to support this.

Kirk Skaugen, Intel Vice President and General Manager, data center group, said that the fulcrum in the chips will help Intel to become "a comprehensive data center provider, providing computing, storage and network building blocks." Fulcrum technologies, Skaugen explains complements the processors and the Intel LAN controllers.

Reliance raises $ 81 million from granite ventures, infinity capital, new Enterprise Associates, Palomar ventures, worldview technology partners, TI businesses and the Athenaeum Fund.

Intel also recently acquired the assets of SySDSoft accelerate their 4 G LTE efforts.
